2025 KEN Orientation - Thursday 23rd January
2020 got underway with an exciting teacher only professional development day held at Paihia School. We had a fantastic line up of speakers and workshop presenters. It was a great day of sharing and learning from each other
Dorothy leads The Manaiakalani Programme in Aotearoa NZ. She is based in Tāmaki and also leads the PLD teams in the ten Manaiakalani Outreach clusters.
She has taught across the sector in her years as a classroom teacher (primary, intermediate and college) and was a founding member of Manaiakalani in 2006.
She been offered corporate experiences which include being an eFellow alumni, ADE (Apple Distinguished Educator), GCT (Google Certified Teacher, and a Hapara World class educator.
An experienced teacher and PLD facilitator, Monika is the Education Manager for the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. Her team is responsible for delivering education programmes to school aged students as well as an increasing number of professionals both through face to face sessions and online. As one of the Raranga Matihiko facilitators she works with kura and schools from around Northland.
Breakout:'Pick-a-path' stories in Scratch
Primarily focused on secondary schools across the Te Hiku Cluster and the Kaikohekohe Cluster, Kerry taught Digital Technologies and Visual Art and Design at secondary school level. In 2015 she was awarded a Woolf Fisher Lead Teacher Scholarship and completed her Masters in Education. She also holds a Post Grad in E-Learning and Digital Technologies with Canterbury University. Kerry is passionate about putting students at the heart of learning by supporting teachers' practices to utilise digital technologies.

Rose Loveridge: Head of Music at Bay of Islands College
Workshop info:
Learn how to use an online music platform (Bandlab) for composition.
Create compositions with your students so they learn basic musical elements.
Share student compositions on the online platform or download and use in movies or slideshows etc.

Learn the basics of how to frame and shoot professional-looking video, and how to capture clear, crisp audio.
Harley Alexander is an award-winning short filmmaker, who has worked in television and video production for over 30 years. He teaches filmmaking in schools around the Far North.
Clarelle Carruthers: Teaching Year 3/4 at Pt England School in Auckland

Learn how to create using Explain Everything, iMovie and your camera on your iPads.
Clarelle is one of the Across School COL teachers for the Manaiakalani Cluster. In this role she supports teachers mainly in 1-1 iPad classrooms. She has been part of the Manaiakalani Digital Teacher Academy, Manaiakalani Innovative Teacher program and shares her teaching as part of Manaiakalani Google Class Onair.

Danni Stone is a year 7/8 teacher at Pt England School. She is a CoL across schools teacher and she is part of Manaiakalani Google Class onAir.
Chrissy Smith and Jess Henare

Come and see what we do around t-shaped learning at our schools and why we think it is important. Lots of practical ideas and time to have a go at one yourself.
Chrissy and Jess are the Deputy Principals and senior class teachers at Paihia School and Kawakawa Primary. After cluster-wide feedback from Woolf Fisher, and data from their classes they jumped into T-shaped Learning to try and accelerate learning. Here is their journey.
Deborah Wallace: Manaiakalani Outreach Facilitator

Learn to create a collage style Digital Learning Object (DLO) using Google Drawings. Then create a downloadable PNG image in Sumo Paint for using within animations in Google Slides.
Hannah West:Year 5 Teacher at Point England School
Workshop info:
Learn and apply some tips/tricks when creating an effective site for learning. This workshop will suit teachers who would like some more advanced tips for creating a site for learning.
Hannah teaches year 5 children at Point England School. She teaches in an innovative learning environment with one other teacher. Hannah undertook her beginning teacher years through the Manaiakalani Digital Teacher Academy, has been a Manaiakalani-Google Class OnAir teacher (2018), a Manaiakalani Innovative Teacher (2019) and is a within-school CoL teacher. In 2019, Hannah inquired into cybersmart teaching and learning, particularly focusing on the need for children to use interpersonal skills and be critical thinkers whilst learning in a digital environment.
